Father Capodanno Medal of Honor Ceremony
On Tuesday, August 1st, approximately 50 Knights and their wives assembled at the Air Mobility Command Museum south of Dover AFB. They were there to celebrate the addition of our patron Father Vincent Capodanno to the Medal of Honors Hall at the museum.
The ceremony began with the posting of the colors with members of the Assembly Color Guard led by our Worthy District Master Tom Firestone and our Worthy Marshall Jack Fowler. The National Anthem was played for our flag and then our Faithful Friar Father Cocco gave the Invocation. The Museum Director John Taylor served as narrator to introduce the speakers. Vice Admiral (Ret) P. Steven Stanley from the Father Capodanno Guild talked about Father Capodanno's life. The citation that accompanied the Medal of Honor was read and a history of the Medal of Honor hallway was given. Most services honor only those members of their services with Medal of Honor displays. The Air Mobility Command Museum honors individuals from all services. They are proud to add Father Capodanno to their Hall of Honor. |
Admiral Stanley closed the presentations by indicating that Dover AFB is the military mortuary. In September 1967 Father Capodanno's remains passed through the Dover AFB mortuary on the way to their final interment.
Father Cocco then led the audience in the prayer to Father Capodanno to close the ceremony.
